The grinding mechanism is made of hardened carbon steel, which preserves the natural oils of pepper for extra flavor to your dishes. They contain different grind settings, six for pepper and three for salt. When they run out, they are easy to clean with a damp cloth and a clean tea towel, after which they are easy to refill.
